As of Sept 15th 2007 my brothers and I purchased Hasbala Lake Lodge from Mr. Mo Miller. We had fished at Hasbala for the 3 years before and I can honestly tell you that everything in Mo’s web site was in Mo’s words and all of it True!
We hope you enjoy our new Hasbala web site and if any of our previous guests have any photos they would like to share please send them along and we will add them to the site.
Last season was our first full season at the lodge without the help of Mo and although it was much more work than we thought it would be, we pulled it off without a hitch. We did many of the upgrades we talked about last season.
We built new beds and brought in new mattresses for the comfort of our guests. We brought in materials and built a new floating dock that we used this season and it works great and is much safer than the old one.
We cleaned up the trail from the dock to the lodge. It looks better and adds to the comfort and safety of the guests. It still looks rustic but fits right into the scheme of things at Hasbala.
We remodeled the main guest cabin, finished the bathroom and porch so that the cabin may the most comfortable place at Hasbala. We added exterior siding to the guide’s cabins and Ed’s cabin and installed soffit and fascia on some of the buildings. See photos here. We have material there so we can finish up the rest of the buildings next season.
John Moody did a great job of re wiring the batteries for the solar system and my brothers Ed and Lynn, Joey, (my nephew) and Dave Morris all worked their hearts out for a week or so to complete all of the work. Dave should get an extra thank you and he is one of the hardest working guys I know and a great friend as well! He is also a good fisherman!
Great sport fishermen and Hasbala Lake Guides guides Rene and Pierre also did their fair share of the work and I could tell that we were all proud once the tasks were completed. We brought in a load of plywood and tongue and groove pine to finish out the inside of the lodge and guest rooms and porch on the main lodge. We also brought in a new Lund boat and motor that worked great for fishing at Hasbala Lake Lodge.
As I have told you in the past, Hasbala Lake Lodge in Canada will never be a 5 star resort. We are a small, family run fishing lodge and we cater to the true outdoorsman. We have a comfortable lodge; great trophy fishing, great fishing guides, good cooking and we get to know each and every one of our guests.
You will never be just a number at Hasbala, we have the luxury of not having 50 guests per week so the fishing stays great and we actually get to go out with the guests and spend some time with them.
If you have 8 guests in your group, you enjoy the lodge and have the place to yourselves. We are very proud of Hasbala and it shows. Click here for group rates.
Fishing in Canada at Hasbala is the thing that drew us to the place. The Northern Pike fishing is as good as any water in the north, the Lake Trout are healthy and very active and for the last 2 years we have even caught them in shallow water on hardware and fly rods.
The Artic Grayling fishing in the river are a blast with either ultra light equipment or your favorite fly rod. We have even tied into the other 2 species in some parts of the river and if you do, be ready for the fight of your life.
A number 9 fly rod and a big woolly worm do the trick for the Northern in the lake. Be ready to loose a few fish and bring extra line, leaders and woolly worms. It is a time you will never forget; just ask Bob Singelyn and his son Bryan as they have great memories of fishing at Hasbala. It just does not get any better than that type of father and son time. See here for family vacation package.
We love getting out and away from civilization and Hasbala is the place. We do not have TV, or Radio, or Newspapers, no e-mail or cell phones either. Hasbala is truly a place to get away from it all. We do have a satellite phone for emergencies or to check on the float planes due in but we try not to deal with the outside world any more than we have to.
We also have great wildlife sightings at Hasbala each year and our feathered friends abound. In this hustle and bustle world Hasbala is a place to just get away from it all and enjoy the great outdoors!
We know you have many choices for your Northern vacation and we hope that you consider Hasbala Lake Lodge and allow us to show you the time of your life! We love Hasbala Lake Lodge and the time we get to spend there! We think you will have the same feelings after your first trip to Hasbala. Many of our clients come back year after year and they are now friends, just the way we like it.
Thanks for your time and we hope to see you next season at Hasbala Lake Lodge,
Ron Opatril
